This is the perfect trip for time challenged supporters

This 4 day itinerary does not skimp on the challenge element.  Walking 50km over one full day and two half days, wild camping at night, this trip can accommodate a larger number of supporters than some of our other challenges.

Challenge Highlights

Trek 50km over two half days and one full day;

A fully supported trek with Moroccan mountain guides and a UK Tribal Tracks leader;

A stunning route through the High Atlas Mountains, winding through Berber Villages and beautiful valleys;

Camping under massive African skies;

Excellent, fresh, traditional food prepared by our Moroccan cooks;

A final night celebration at a hotel in Marrakech to salute the group’s impressive achievement.

The Itinerary

Day 1 – London to Marrakech, to Foussarou

We have a very early start! Meet your Tribal Tracks UK leader at the airport before flying to Marrakech, where you will meet your local team.  We then transfer to Imlil in the High Atlas Mountains for the start of this exciting challenge.

The trek will begin immediately after lunch and you will begin at Imlil (at 1740m) itself.  It is a steep but beautiful climb up to the pass of Tizi Tamatert (2279m), climbing up through some of the higher villages and then eventually through walnut and pine tree groves.  We then head to Foussarou (mostly flat or downhill) to camp near the village of Tacheddirt (roughly 10km).  The campsite is in a lovely situation at the head of the Tacheddirt valley, looking down towards tomorrow’s goal.

Relax while the cooks prepare an impressive feast, served in a traditional dining tent with mattresses and carpets on the floor.  Afterwards, retreat to the fire, get to know your fellow supporters and enjoy the massive display that is the African night sky.

Overnight wild camping, L,D.  10km trekking.

Day 2 – Foussarou to Tizi Oussem

After breakfast we continue the trek, starting from Foussarou and passing by the villages of Tachddirt, Ouanskra, Tamguist, Tinoughrin and Ikkis.  We cross the river at the bottom of the valley and then begin to trek uphill, again passing through beautiful walnut groves and next to a little stream.  Our goal is the Aguersiwal pass (2050m) and while it is a long way up, it is a steady climb and on a good path.  The views are stunning! We then descend steeply to Aguersiwal village, where there is a women’s co-operative. Lunch is at the bottom of the village, next to a river.  We then pass by Tisgharin, Matat and begin to trek up and over Tizi Oudite (2200m).  The scenery is very different in this valley, with red, sandy soil and groves of junipers.  We then have another steep descent to reach the beautiful Azzaden Valley where we camp at Tizi Oussem.  We have another chance to enjoy an amazing Moroccan feast, and our final evening around the campfire.

Overnight wild camping, B, L,D.  25km trekking.

Day 3 – Tizi Oussem to Imlil then Marrakech

Today is the final 15km of our challenge and after a hearty breakfast, we trek over Tizi Mzzik (2500m) and down to Achain village and its beautiful waterfalls.  We then head to Imlil, where our trek ends!

After lunch, we transfer to our hotel in Marrakech, ready for a hot shower.  We will take you into the Medina in the evening, for a celebration dinner in a restaurant in a spectacular setting, overlooking the Main Square.

Overnight Marrakech hotel, B, L, D. 15km trekking.

Day 4 – Homeward bound

After breakfast, we will transfer back to Marrakech for our flight home and depending on flight times, will tour the souk, do some shopping and then have lunch.
