Travel vaccinations
Many of our Tribal Tracks' exceptional adventures and charity fundraising trips take place in countries that may advise that you have travel vaccinations prior to departure. In some cases, vaccinations can be mandatory to gain entry into a particular country.
Although we are travel experts, we are not medical specialists, so we cannot explicitly recommend what vaccinations you should or shouldn't have. Always seek the advice of a medical professional if you are unsure. They will likely want to see a copy of your itinerary, and can then best advise whether they think an advised or 'to consider' vaccination is appropriate for you.
Start thinking about travel vaccines 6 to 8 weeks before you're due to travel. Some vaccines need multiple doses weeks apart
Get a print out of all the vaccines you've had previously — you may already be covered
Some vaccines are available for free on the NHS, but some you will have to pay for
If you think you need vaccinations, it's a good idea to share your itinerary with your GP or Travel Clinic so they are well-informed about your trip
In all of our years of experience, we've found Travel Health Pro to be the best source of travel vaccine information. Always check on that website before travel, as it is routinely updated by specialists.
Some vaccinations are available to get through the NHS and won't cost you any money. At the time of writing, these are:
Commonly advised paid for vaccinations
If you're looking at the 'paid for' list and gasping at the price of the vaccines, fear not. It's unlikely you'll need all of them. Vaccination advice depends not only on the country but, in some instances, regions within that country and your itinerary. For example, sitting on a beach for a week in Borneo is much different from spending a month jungle trekking, and in the same way your kit list might look very different for each trip, so might your vaccination requirements.
You may have had advisory vaccines before, whether throughout childhood and into adulthood or for a previous trip. You can ask your GP for a printout of vaccines that shows everything from birth to now. Some vaccinations last forever, and some need a booster after X period of time. Your GP or Travel Clinic is best placed to advise.
