Travel insurance

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory for travelling with Tribal Tracks, and you should get it as soon as your place is confirmed.

We advise purchasing travel insurance on booking. Doing so ensures you're immediately protected against any pre-departure mishaps, such as accidents or health issues, that might prevent you from travelling.

Before you travel, we need the name of your insurance company, your policy number, and their 24-hour emergency evacuation and repatriation cover, inclusive of helicopter evacuation. Please email these details to us once you have arranged your policy.

Key points

If you already have a sufficient travel insurance policy, include the details in the relevant fields on your booking form. If not, we advise that you arrange travel insurance on booking and email them to us straight away.

Your insurance should provide comprehensive coverage for overseas medical treatment, evacuation or repatriation, your baggage and equipment, and the specific activities you’ll be engaging in during your adventure, as per your Tribal Tracks itinerary.

You need to inform your insurers if you are trekking to altitude—and how high. Refer to your itinerary or ask us if you're unsure. Some examples are below.

We advise that your cover includes personal liability and cancellation cover, and cover in the event you are unable to join your trip for any reason (such as illness, injury, curtailment and so on).

Declare all pre-existing medical conditions to both Tribal Tracks and your Insurance Provider, and keep us both updated on any changes to your health from booking to departure.

Don't hide anything with the aim of saving money, as this could come back to haunt you should you need to claim. A claim may be rejected if you have knowingly withheld information.

Tribal Tracks is unable to provide advice on individual travel insurance policies (aside from queries relating to the itinerary) and does not accept any liability for policy matters or claims.

You are welcome to use any insurance company you want to, but in our experience, we have found Big Cat Travel Insurance to be fair and reliable (there is no incentive for us to suggest them to you). They provide three levels of cover:

  • Standard Pack that covers trekking to 2500m. Example Tribal Tracks itineraries that fall into this category are:

Crete Sea to Summit (1631m)
Madeira Coast to Coast (1861m)

  • Activity Pack that covers trekkers up to 4600m. Some examples of Tribal Tracks adventures that would fall into this category are:

Annapurna Khoprack Trek (Nepal, 4500m)
Mount Toubkal Summit (Morocco, 4167m)
Go Japan! (Japan, 3776m)
Mount Elgon Summit (Uganda, 4321m)

  • Extreme Activity Pack that covers heights above 4600m with no upper altitude limit. Some examples of Tribal Tracks adventures that would fall into this category are:

Machu Picchu via the Salkantay Trail (Peru, 4650m)
Mount Ararat Summit (Turkey 5137m)

Please remember that Tribal Tracks needs your insurance details before departure. If you've not sent them to us already, please do so at your earliest convenience. If you need us to clarify anything about your itinerary, don't hesitate to contact us.
