Oman offers a dip into the exotic without having to spend too long on a plane or suffer too much from jet lag. This trip takes in the very best of what Oman has to offer - spectacular desert and mountain scenery, perfect oases, dramatic forts and idyllic beaches. Self-driving is smooth and easy and really allows you to get off the beaten track and explore at your own pace.
Trip Details
Leaving London in the evening, you arrive into Muscat in the early morning of Day Two.
You will be welcomed by our representative and will be transferred to your hotel and relax in the sun, or venture out to explore the souks and sights of Muscat.
An early check in has been requested, but cannot be guaranteed. However, we have included breakfast for you so that you can have something to eat and then relax by the pool until you can check in.
Accommodation and Meals
Overnight 3* Rozana Hotel, Muscat. Breakfast
Today your adventure begins.
Our representative will meet you with your car at 9am at your hotel.
Proceed to Nizwa, the market town on the crossroads of ancient trading routes. Visit its ancient fort and enjoy its bustling streets, before driving to Jabreen, stopping at Bahla for a photograph of the Bahla Fort, now a World Heritage Site. Arrive at Jabreen to visit the castle, the finest of Oman's castles, built in the late 17th Century, which became a seat of Omani learning. You then drive to Misfah, an old medieval village located in a date plantation with ancient irrigation systems. You trek to the old village with an Omani guide who will show you the water systems and around the village, and you can have your packed lunch en route. You then return to your vehicle to proceed to Jabel Shams - a spectacular mountain retreat.
Accommodation and Meals
Overnight in Jabel Shams Heights Resort, full board.
Meet your Omani guide and then jeep to the beginning of the trek.
This dramatically beautiful route takes you deep into Oman's Grand Canyon, Wadi An Nakhur, to an abandoned village nestled deep in the interior of the canyon. The views throughout are absolutely spectacular.
The Balcony Trek is a well-worn path in rocky surroundings, and there are some few steep parts, but it is relatively easy going. You will have a packed lunch with you so you can choose to do as much or as little as you want (it is an out and back trek of 9km in total). Return to your hotel.
Accommodation and Meals
Overnight in Jabel Shams Heights Resort, full board.
After breakfast, proceed from Jabel Shams to the desert, visiting Wadi Bani Khalid, a natural oasis en route.
Swim in the natural pools and then do a small trek inside the oasis before lunch in a local restaurant there. There are some lovely restaurants serving delicious grilled meats and juices, (my favourite is lemon and mint ). Drive to your tented desert camp deep in Wahiba Sands and enjoy an amazing sunset before dinner.
Accommodation and Meals
Overnight Sarmadi Desert Camp, breakfast, dinner.
Today will be a roughly 15km desert trek (this can be tailored depending upon how you are feeling).
There will be 4 camels in support walking with you, as well as a trekking guide and the camels are there if you want to hop on to ease any aching feet! You will enjoy a packed lunch en route before returning to the camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Accommodation and Meals
Overnight Sarmadi Desert Camp, full board
Today you begin the journey back to Muscat.
After breakfast, you will leave the desert and drive via Wadi Shab and the natural Bimmah sinkhole, before having lunch at a local restaurant of your choice. After lunch, drive to the 5* Shangri La Al Waha Hotel for some well-earned R&R!
Accommodation and Meals
Overnight 5* Shangri La Al Waha, breakfast.

In a nutshell, almost everything!
This is what you will need to pay for/ buy/source yourself.
It is a requirement of Tribal Tracks booking terms and conditions that each supporter must hold their own travel insurance which covers the trip and the activities they are doing.
We advise you to put insurance in place as soon as possible. Your insurance must be valid and in date, covering the entire period that you are travelling for, including the return journey home. It should cover medical and personal accident risks, and should include repatriation costs and air ambulance or helicopter rescue services, where appropriate. We are happy to help you if you have any queries about this or have any difficulties.
Tribal Tracks has 100% Financial Protection and has a trust account with the Protected Trust Service, member number 5566.
This means that all client monies paid to Tribal Tracks are held in our dedicated trust account, which is supervised by an independent trustee. This means that in the very unlikely event that Tribal Tracks ceases to trade, your money is safe. For more information, please visit this link. Any flights booked for you by Tribal Tracks will be ATOL protected under our own ATOL certificate.
At Tribal Tracks, Responsible Travel is enormously important to us, and our commitment to responsible travel is evidenced in every itinerary that we prepare.
Core to our business is the belief that holidays can and should be enjoyable to the traveller but should be conducted in a socially, environmentally and economically responsible manner which brings benefit to local communities. This is implemented through a variety of measures which can be found in our Responsible Travel policy - http://www.tribaltracks.co.uk/responsible-travel-policy. We encourage you to read this and to play your own part in travelling responsibly.

For up-to-date vaccinations information please visit the NHS website ‘Fit for Travel’ at: http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk. The Tribal Tracks team are travel professionals, but we are not medical experts, and we would encourage you to visit your GP or travel nurse to discuss vaccination requirements. Please remember to take your itinerary with you so that they can see where you will be travelling. You should make an appointment at least 3-4 months before you travel.
In addition, please note that information on vaccinations can change at short notice; we recommend that you contact your Medical Professional or a Travel Health Clinic at least 8 weeks prior to departure for the most up to date information.
We recommend that you bring a multi-region adapter plug with you. There will be no facility to recharge electrical items on the trek, so we recommend you bring a power bank to top up the charge. We also recommend putting your phone on Airplane mode during the day to save on power.
Using your mobile overseas can sometimes attract unwelcome, very high tariffs. We recommend that you check with your network provider before you travel, but if in doubt, keep your phone switched to Airplane mode and use it only when there is WiFi. Reception can also be patchy, and unreliable, particularly in remote areas, which is why we carry a satellite phone with us. Please let your nearest and dearest know about this, and warn them that you may not be able to be in regular contact.
